About Our Bands
Addington Brass
Addington Brass is a B grade brass band based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
A diverse group, ranging in age from 14 to 70 the band currently rehearses on Monday and Thursday evenings 7:30-9:30pm.
Our new-look band room was opened in March 2003 and is a rehearsal hall with three adjoining practice/teaching rooms and an upper level built to house one of New Zealand’s most extensive music libraries.
The band has a busy schedule through the year and perform at wide range of community events, including:
Summertime Riverside Concerts
ANZAC Day Services at the Papanui RSA
RNZAF Wigram Retreat Ceremony
Community Christmas Carols at Riccarton Bush
The band regularly competes at both provincial contests as part of the CPBBA, and at the annual BBANZ National Contest in the B Grade.
Addington Workshop Band
Addington Workshop Band is a D grade brass band formed in 2024.
The Workshop Band has a full a complement of players in every department, but is actively seeking cornets. If you're harbouring an interest in getting back into it, with the Nationals in Christchurch this year, now's the time to get back into banding!
Rehearsals are every Tuesday, from 6:30-8:30pm at the Addington Brass band room.
The Workshop band competed in their first contest in 2024, in the D Grade section of the CPBBA Provincial Contest, winning the D Grade March.
Addington TRAINing Band
The TRAINing Band was formed in 2021 to bring a youth band back to the Addington family.
Composed of both beginning brass players of all ages, supported by some players from Addington Brass, the TRAINing band is a welcoming environment for learning musicians to develop their ensemble skills.
Rehearsals are every Monday during the school term, from 6:30pm before the Addington Brass rehearsal.
The TRAINing band competed in their first contest in 2022, in the youth grade of the CPBBA Provincial Contest.
